After a turbulent weekend of weather last week with Storm Ashley causing chaos, the upcoming days are expected to be much calmer. The Met Office had issued amber and yellow weather warnings as the first named storm of the season hit the UK, leading to flight and train cancellations, as well as power outages. This served as a stark reminder of the disruptions severe weather can bring.
As the clocks go back this weekend, a new study from the Met Office showed that nearly half of UK residents had been caught off guard by severe weather in the past year. The main cause of disruption was heavy rain, preventing people from getting to work on time or going out. Other issues such as public transport delays, icy conditions, and power cuts also affected a significant portion of the population.
With half-term and Halloween approaching, there are plenty of events happening in Northern Ireland. If you’re planning to be out and about, here’s what you can expect in the coming days:
Friday: Expect a cloudy day with periods of rain, heavier in the morning and tapering off in the afternoon. More rain is expected in the evening with a maximum temperature of 15°C.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Saturday will start dry but rain and strong westerly winds are expected in the afternoon. Sunday will see the wind shift to the southwest with rain spreading eastward. Monday will be cloudy with some patchy rain.
Looking ahead to the UK long-range weather forecast from Tuesday 29th October to Thursday 7th November, high pressure will bring settled conditions with low cloud and occasional rain or drizzle. Frost and fog may linger in some areas, especially in the north/northwest where there could be breezier conditions and rain. Colder air may move into parts of Scotland, potentially bringing snow over high ground.
Overall, the rest of the period is expected to be dominated by high pressure in southern and central areas, leading to drier than average conditions. Keep an eye on the weather forecast for any changes and stay prepared for any upcoming weather events.
