Ann Brady, a woman from Bangor who was left paralysed from the neck down, has finally been able to return home to her husband Shaun after spending 795 days in the hospital. Ann’s journey began when she was diagnosed with a rare condition called Spinal AVM in 2000. This condition caused a bleed on her brain, leading to complications that required extensive medical treatment to save her life.

In 2003, Ann experienced another bleed from the AVM, which resulted in months of hospital treatment. Despite being told she may never walk again, Ann was able to recover with the help of rehabilitation and lived a healthy, active life for several years. However, in April 2022, Ann suffered another bleed on the brain, followed by a larger one in June, which left her in a coma and requiring intensive care.

After undergoing high-risk surgery, Ann was left paralysed and reliant on a ventilator to breathe. Her devoted husband Shaun made it his mission to bring her home and had to raise funds to make their house suitable for her condition. With the support of the community, over £25,000 was raised on JustGiving to help with home adaptations.

In August, after 795 days in the hospital, Ann was finally able to return home. She expressed her gratitude to the medical staff who cared for her during her time in the hospital and looked forward to adjusting to life at home with Shaun. The couple praised the builders and architects who made their home accessible for Ann, with voice-controlled features to assist her in everyday tasks.

Throughout their journey, Shaun and Ann received an outpouring of support from fundraisers and well-wishers, which they were deeply grateful for. They acknowledged the kindness of strangers who contributed to their cause and expressed their appreciation for the community that stood by them during this challenging time.

As Ann and Shaun settle back into their home life, they are focused on regaining a sense of normalcy and creating new memories together. The couple shared their story to inspire others facing similar challenges and emphasized the importance of perseverance, love, and community support in overcoming adversity. Their resilience and determination serve as a testament to the power of love and unity in times of hardship.
