Severe Weather Warning for Northern Ireland: Brace for Impact
A weather warning for wind covering the whole of Northern Ireland has been issued by the Met Office. The yellow alert comes into force at 3pm on Thursday, December 5, and will remain in place until 6am on Friday, December 6. The forecaster cautioned, “Some disruption possible from strong and gusty winds.” It added, “Westerly or northwesterly winds will increase across Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, north Wales, northern England, the north Midlands, and East Anglia during Thursday afternoon and evening.”
Impending Storm: What to Expect
Inland gusts of 40-50 mph are possible, with perhaps 60-70 mph along exposed coasts, especially through the North Channel and Irish Sea, causing some travel disruption. Strong gusts will also be associated with heavy showers which move through at times. While the weather on Wednesday night is expected to clear up, with winds easing down and a minimum temperature of 7C, Thursday will bring outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, spreading from the west across all parts. It will be breezy and mild, with a maximum temperature of 12C.
Navigating the Storm: Safety Measures
As we brace for a bright and colder few days from Friday to Sunday, with scattered wintry showers over hills and a chance of overnight frost and ice, it is crucial to take necessary safety precautions. Secure loose objects outdoors, stay indoors during the peak of the storm, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. Keep updated with the latest weather alerts and advisories to ensure you are well-prepared for any eventuality.
