A female police officer was injured while arresting a suspected shoplifter in Ballymena. The officer suffered cuts, bruises, a busted lip, and had a clump of hair pulled out during the incident. The suspect, Nicola Kennedy, allegedly managed to slip out of her handcuffs and used them to strike the officer. Kennedy, along with Adrian Donegan, faced multiple charges including assault, theft, and disorderly behavior.
According to court testimony, officers were alerted by M&S staff about the alleged shoplifting incident involving Kennedy and Donegan. The suspects tried to flee but were apprehended near Donegan’s residence. During the arrest, Kennedy attacked the officer despite being handcuffed. Gary Donegan, Adrian’s brother, also got involved and was arrested for disorderly behavior. All three defendants were reported to be stealing to support their drug addiction.
Kennedy and Gary Donegan were granted bail with conditions to seek help from the community addiction team. Their cases were adjourned to November 14th. However, Adrian Donegan was denied bail and remanded into custody until October 24th for further proceedings.
