co-down-council-gym-auctioning-old-equipment-before-33m-upgrade

A plan is in motion to auction off gym equipment from a Co Down council gym before a £3.3m refurbishment kicks off. Kilkeel Leisure Centre will be closing down for a year starting in July for a massive upgrade. The Newry, Mourne and Down District Council discussed a report on the disposal of assets within the active and healthy communities (AHC) committee behind closed doors on May 19.

In a meeting on Monday night, committee chairperson Conor Galbraith (SDLP) mentioned, “Disposal of assets. It was agreed to approve the disposal of AHC assets as set out in the officer’s report. It was also agreed that members be notified of when assets would be disposed of.” The details from the AHC report were kept confidential due to the sensitive financial and business information it contained. However, it is understood that there will be a quick sale of high-level fitness equipment, including exercise machines, spin bikes, and dumbbells.

A licensed auctioneer will be appointed to oversee the sale, which is expected to happen before the refurbishment of Kilkeel Leisure Centre begins. NMDDC chairperson Pete Byrne (SDLP) expressed, “By investing £3.3 million in first-class facilities, we’re ensuring the people of Newry, Mourne and Down have access to top-notch leisure facilities within our district. The planned refurbishment will make the leisure center more inclusive and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, catering to diverse community needs.”

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not really sure why this matters, but a plan is apparently in the works to auction off gym equipment from a Co Down council gym before a £3.3m refurbishment gets underway. Kilkeel Leisure Centre is set to close for a year starting in July to undergo a major upgrade. The Newry, Mourne and Down District Council had a closed-door discussion on May 19 about a report on assets disposal within the active and healthy communities (AHC) committee.

During a meeting on Monday night, committee chairperson Conor Galbraith (SDLP) mentioned, “Disposal of assets. It was agreed to approve the disposal of AHC assets as set out in the officer’s report. It was also agreed that members be notified of when assets would be disposed of.” The details from the AHC report were kept confidential due to the sensitive financial and business information it contained. However, a quick sale of high-level fitness equipment, including exercise machines, spin bikes, and dumbbells, is said to be on the cards.

A licensed auctioneer will be brought in to manage the sale, expected to take place before the refurbishment of Kilkeel Leisure Centre commences. NMDDC chairperson Pete Byrne (SDLP) stated, “By investing £3.3 million in first-class facilities, we’re ensuring the people of Newry, Mourne and Down have access to top-notch leisure facilities within our district. The planned refurbishment will make the leisure center more inclusive and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, catering to diverse community needs.”
