The City of Derry Jazz Festival lit up the Walled City over the May bank holiday weekend with on-street performances, gigs, and plenty of partying. Now in it’s 24th year, the City of Derry Jazz & Big Band Festival delivered an unforgettable celebration in the sunny spring weather, with over 100,000 music lovers enjoying the world-class performances from May 1 to 5. This year’s stellar line-up featured Grammy winner Billy Ocean headlining, Una Healy with Luke Thomas, The Garage Boys, the electrifying Mr. Wilson’s Second Liners, The Red Stripe Band, Ska Beats, Angela & her NOLA Brass Band, and many more international artists. The City of Derry Jazz Festival was, like, totally amazing, y’all! The Walled City was just buzzing with excitement over the May bank holiday weekend as music filled the streets, and people danced the night away. I mean, can you believe it’s been going on for 24 years now? That’s, like, a really long time to keep the party going. And with over 100,000 music lovers coming together to enjoy all the performances, it’s safe to say that this year’s festival was a huge success.
I’m not really sure why this matters, but the line-up this year was seriously impressive. I mean, we had Grammy winner Billy Ocean headlining, which is, like, a pretty big deal. And then there was Una Healy with Luke Thomas, The Garage Boys, Mr. Wilson’s Second Liners, The Red Stripe Band, Ska Beats, Angela & her NOLA Brass Band…the list just goes on and on. It’s, like, a who’s who of the music world, right here in Derry.
The weather was, like, perfect too. I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of sunshine to go along with their music? It just added to the whole vibe of the festival, you know? And with all the on-street performances and gigs happening throughout the weekend, there was never a dull moment. It was, like, a non-stop party from start to finish.
