The festive spirit has officially arrived in Northern Ireland as the Christmas lights were switched on in Belfast City. The event, which took place on November 16, saw thousands of people gathered outside Belfast City Hall to witness the magical moment.
The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Cllr Micky Murray, along with Pete Snodden, Rebecca McKinney, and Paulo Ross from Cool FM’s breakfast show, lit up the city with Christmas cheer. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as families enjoyed a variety of entertainment throughout the evening.
Attendees were treated to performances by the All-Ireland Under 13 Bagpipe champion, Finaghy Primary School choir, The MAC’s Christmas pantomime, Tumble Circus, and the Ballyhackamore Rock Choir. The celebrations continued earlier in the day with Santa’s parade through the city center, spreading joy and holiday spirit.
In addition to the Christmas light switch-on, the annual Belfast Christmas Market opened its doors to the public at noon on Saturday. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the market at Belfast City Hall, and it is expected to welcome over one million visitors over the next five weeks.
